Abstract

The global climate crisis has negatively impacted economic development, social stability, and human well being. Conventional development models oriented toward economic growth tend to neglect environmental aspects, thus triggering ecosystem degradation, natural resource exploitation, and social inequality. This condition has encouraged the emergence of the green economy concept as a development approach that emphasizes resource efficiency, low carbon emissions, and social justice, which is more sustainable. However, the implementation of a green economy requires a foundation of values and ethics that align with Islamic principles. This study aims to analyze the relevance and integration of the green economy concept with the maqsid of Sharia as a normative framework in the transformation of Islamic economic development in the era of the climate crisis. The research method used is a qualitative approach with library research, through a review of scientific literature in the form of national and international journals discussing the green economy, Islamic economics, and sustainable development. The study's findings indicate that the principles of a green economy are strongly linked to the objectives of the maqasid sharia, particularly in protecting life (ḥifẓ al-nafs), wealth (ḥifẓ al-māl), and descendants (ḥifẓ al-nasl). The integration of these two concepts has the potential to create a paradigm for Islamic economic development that focuses not only on growth but also on welfare, social justice, and environmental sustainability. Policy implications emphasize the importance of strengthening green economic policies based on maqasid sharia through the development of sustainable Islamic financial instruments to strengthen economic and ecological resilience amidst the global climate crisis.
